Chief Executive Officer, HIROC
Toronto, ON
Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) is a not-for-profit insurer and reciprocal that provides a full spectrum of insurance products, claims support, sage counsel, and risk management solutions to healthcare organizations across Canada. Governed by its Subscribers, more than 800 diverse healthcare organizations nationwide, HIROC brings together deep sector expertise and the collective insight of its partners to advance safety, share valuable knowledge, and help the healthcare community adapt to the evolving demands of the industry.
Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will set clear strategic direction while ensuring disciplined execution, combining enterprise leadership with strong operational and insurance credibility. Central to the role is building trusted, enduring relationships with Subscribers, governments, and key external partners, while leading through influence and empowering the executive team to deliver with accountability. The CEO will also provide prudent stewardship of insurance risk and financial sustainability and will navigate the complexity of Canada’s healthcare environment with credibility across jurisdictions, including the regulatory and government dynamics that shape HIROC’s operating context. The CEO is responsible for the operation of HIROC Group as a mid-sized agile organization and is experienced in maintaining a culture focused on defining and embedding beliefs and behaviours that drive innovation; a modernized/sustainable structure and processes that enable resilience and meet customer needs.
The ideal candidate will bring senior executive experience leading large, multi-jurisdictional and technically complex organizations, with the ability to inspire and align senior executive teams around clear strategic priorities and disciplined execution. They will bring credibility with sophisticated boards, sound judgment in highly regulated environments, and a track record of strong financial and risk stewardship. An exceptional communicator, they convey ideas with clarity and authenticity, serving as a confident and credible spokesperson who builds trust, aligns diverse stakeholders, and cultivates enduring relationships that drive engagement and long-term organizational success. Experience at the CEO level, or in comparable senior executive roles, is highly valued, as is expertise in the insurance sector, including underwriting, claims, reinsurance, capital management, and long-tail risk. Familiarity with the Canadian healthcare system, patient safety landscape, and provider environment would further strengthen their effectiveness in the role.
