Head of Fixed Income, Middlefield Limited

Toronto, Ontario | On-site

Middlefield Limited is an independent investment management firm headquartered in Toronto with a more than 45‑year history serving Canadian investors. Long recognized for its equity income expertise and innovative product structures, Middlefield is entering an exciting new phase of growth as it broadens its investment platform and deepens its relevance with advisors and clients. As part of this evolution, the firm is making a meaningful investment in building a differentiated fixed income capability that complements its existing strengths and supports its long‑term growth strategy.

The Head of Fixed Income will play a defining, inaugural leadership role, entrusted with building and scaling Middlefield’s fixed income platform from an early stage as a core pillar of the firm’s long‑term growth strategy. This individual will be responsible for establishing the investment vision and philosophy, overseeing portfolio management across fixed income strategies, and driving the development of new products within mutual fund and ETF structures. The role is both strategic and hands‑on, combining investment leadership with external engagement as a senior spokesperson to advisors and clients, while working closely with distribution, marketing, and internal stakeholders to support growth and education. Building, mentoring, and leading a high‑performing fixed income team will be central to success.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned fixed income investment professional with a strong track record as a portfolio manager and deep expertise across public fixed income markets, particularly rates and macro‑oriented strategies, complemented by credit experience. They bring intellectual curiosity, sound investment judgment, and the ability to clearly articulate views to diverse audiences. Entrepreneurial by nature, this individual thrives in a collaborative, growth‑oriented environment and is motivated by the opportunity to build and lead a platform rather than simply operate within an established one.
